What is Boggle and Bruxing?

Rats have unique and very neat abilities called bruxing and boggling. For an unaware new owner it may freak you out or worry you but its completely natural and often a good thing!

Bruxing is an intense tooth grinding. This is actually what keeps rats' teeth in trim condition.

While bruxing they may also boggle. Boggling is when their eyes vibrate intensely, bulging in and out of the socket.

You can think of this as a version of a cat's purring.

So most of the time, this happens when they are content and happy.  But also like a cat's purr, it can also happen during pain or illness. So keep that in mind. Context is key!

I would check YouTube for rat boggle to see it in action! it is very interesting.
